Indeed, a growing number of universities from throughout the world are utilizing an Internet format called Opencourse Ware to present academic courses on virtually every topic.
While the vast majority of these courses are not yet being offered for credit (it’s only a matter of time…), Opencourse Ware represents a shift in the manner in which Higher Education will be delivered. In short, it levels the educational playing field by vastly increasing student access to unique and specialized courses that would normally cost a small fortune.
Given the social/economic/technological realities of today, it doesn’t take a genius to predict that Opencourse Ware will greatly impact the delivery of education. To be sure, Workforce Development in particular and Higher Education in general will see dramatic changes in the next 10 years.
